Since I am using this to make single large collage images of products I am selling, I must have the entire photo visible. This does not appear possible - or at least is the one option that isn't intuitive. What if you need the entire photo in the template box? You should be able to reduce the photo so the larger dimension fits, and then fill the background with something - like letterboxing. Well, no camera today put out square photos. Lets say you are using a template with square boxes. If the photo dimensions do not match that of the square you can move the photo around, and I have been able to double click the photo and ENLARGE it to zoon in, but I cannot reduce the size. You select the template, add some photos to the left side, then drag them to the individual squares.

The problem I have (and I am not paying $20 just to find out if this is solved in the Pro version) is that you cannot resize an image. Mac OS X provides all the tools needed to convert the ISO image to UDRW. You can choose from any number of (largely corny, in my humble opinion) images/patterns, or you can select Color Fill. The interface is clean and easy to use, understanding that this is the free version there are still useful templates and it is a functional program. In addition to your choice in templates, you also have a choice in background. Your changes show up in real time, and the app felt responsive during my time with it today. You can rotate the photos in the collage, increase or decrease the spacing between the photos, and increase or decrease the size of the photos (which, in turn, decreases or increases the number of photos that are included in a collage). Click the Add (+) option on the left and import the photos you want to combine. Expand Collages on the left, click Classic, and choose Classic 1 on the right.

To use this app: Download and install CollageFactory Free on your Mac. To the right of the center work area are a handful of sliders to tweak the look of your collage. CollageFactory Free is an app you can use to put photos side by side on your Mac for free. You can also use the Random Layout and Shuffle buttons at the top of the CollageIt window to reorder your photos. Once you have selected your photos, you can drag photos from one collage box to another to swap places, and by clicking on a photo in a collage and then clicking the Crop button below it, you can reposition the photo in that frame.

Upgrade to the $4.99 Pro app and that number increases to 200. It puts a cap on the number of photos you can include in any single collage at 20. If you select more than 20 photos, however, you'll discover one of the limitations of the free app. With either method, you can select multiple photos to import, saving you from having to go one by one. You can either use the "+" button in the lower-left corner of the CollageIt window to browse photos to add to your collage, or you can simply drag photos to the left-hand panel of CollageIt from a folder or directly from iPhoto. After you choose a template, you can then start adding photos to the app to start making your collage. When you first launch the app, it opens a window with a variety of templates spread across four styles: Mosaic, Grid, Center, and Pile. CollageIt Free seems to be making its way up the ranks in the Mac App Store, so let's take a look at what this free collage app can do.
